Squad Goals: The tricky territory of assembling the perfect team.
24-Oct-2016

They say that the essence of a good work environment is a team that works well together. As a Manager it is very important that all the cogs in the system are compatible with each other and work swiftly and efficiently as a whole. But all these team members need to get along or at least be able to work together in order for the organization to benefit from them.

The job of the manager or the recruiter, then, becomes one akin to that of a chef. They can make sure that all the ingredients are present in the perfect proportions to make it a recipe for success.

The key ingredient to add to this recipe, however, is “personality”. Different personalities are like assets to any organization. They bring in their own unique perspectives on any matter and it is through the dialogue of these varied perspectives that new ideas emerge.

But we need to make sure that the personalities are well-balanced to make a good team. This isn’t always easy. If there are too many headstrong people, the discussion phase of a project never ends. If there are too many introverts, the team doesn’t communicate properly. If there are more people who cannot keep to deadlines, there is no scope for the project to succeed.

What managers need is a mix of people who contribute individually to make their team a success. But how does one assemble this team of Avengers without the help of the SHIELD? How can one make sure that the Tony Stark and Captain America don’t spend most of the mission fighting over the color of the curtains?

Personality tests help immensely for this. It is very important to know your employee inside out in order to put them in a team they’d thrive in. And while companies often do background checks and aptitude tests, personality assessment is a lesser known but far more effective tool to make sure that the team building is flawless.

A person who likes taking up new challenges and is open to new experiences is more likely to do better under a leader who will let their employees be. A conscientious, routine-loving fellow in a team of creative heads makes sure that the deadlines are followed. Of course, it takes some amount of practice to get this mix right but the results are worth it.

It is an art that is easy to master provided there is science in the form of assessment tests to back it up. So it’s all about knowing your employees! CB5 helps in getting the right team in place.
